On-Site Chipping and Stump Grinding: Doing Waste Right in the Overberg

The problem on site
Every job ends the same way, a big pile of branches, logs and roots.
It sits there waiting for “later.” Later often means it gets burnt, dumped or buried. That wastes space, fuel and time.
Most places don’t have a plan for the waste. Crews just want it gone so they can move on. That’s where jobs get messy.

What usually happens
On farms, estates and golf courses, you’ll see piles sitting behind sheds or fences.
Green waste mixed with dry stuff. Logs mixed with gum, Port Jackson, or garden cuttings. Some of it’s fine, some of it’s full of soil.
Nobody wants to touch it once it’s old and heavy.
That’s where Overberg Biomass comes in: to clean it up fast and properly.
The better way
We don’t overthink it. If there’s a pile, we chip it.
Anything clean and dry goes straight through the chipper.
Logs bigger than about 150mm stay behind, we cut them into 40cm pieces for firewood. The client can keep or sell them.
Anything with sand or soil stays out of the chipper. That’s a hard rule. It destroys blades and stops work.
If it’s a mixed heap, that’s fine. We handle it as it comes. Our job is to leave the site clean, not to waste your time sorting piles.
For stumps, we grind them down on-site so the area can be leveled or replanted straight after. No digging, no hauling.

How to make it run smoothly
You don’t need to prep much before we arrive, but a few things help:
Make sure we can reach the pile with the chipper.
Keep soil, sand and stones out of the mix.
Tell us if you want to keep the chips for mulch.
Firewood stays on site unless you arrange to move it.
That’s all. We do the rest. From cut to clean-up.
Why it matters in the Overberg
Here, the ground is dry and the wind is rough. Every bit of mulch helps hold moisture and protect soil.
If you burn or dump it, you lose that cover. If you chip and reuse it, it feeds the ground and cuts down on erosion.
Hotels, farms, and estates all get the same benefit. The site looks clean, and nothing good goes to waste. That’s real waste management, not paperwork.
The core message
Proper waste work is simple. Chip what’s there. Leave usable firewood. Keep soil out of the chipper. Finish the job clean.
Overberg Biomass helps crews, estates, and farms finish faster and cleaner with on-site chipping and stump grinding across the Overberg.
